Brenten Kelly first competed at Oregon Trail Rally in 2013, racing in the Super Production class early in his rally career while also working as an instructor at DirtFish.
Though often assumed to be from Washington, Brenten grew up less than 30 minutes from the Sno* Drift stages, which—along with LSPR—he considers his home events.
While working with Brenten on the DirtFish rally media team during ARA events in 2023, I learned a great deal by watching him and Colin interview competitors. It was eye-opening to see how quickly they connected with people and asked thoughtful questions that brought out genuine emotion and lived experience. That ability to relate and truly listen is what makes them among the best reporters in rally. If you see him with a microphone at Recce or Parc, chase him to talk about your rally :)
In Brenten's own words
"I first competed in OTR in 2013. I raced in Super Production class, I was an instructor at DirtFish, only a few rallies into my career. A friend of mine Ron Erikson Co-Drove for me, we had an amazing time. Still felt overwhelmed and didn't know what I was doing expect during the actual stages."
"Racing is easy it's the other parts you need to grind it out to learn."
His memorable incident: "I had a decent off at a spectator corner in 2013, I got away with it, but it was a nice slice of humble pie to get me back to a smart pace."
"There's just something special about being out in the woods, add rally cars to that and you got the perfect blend of nature and pure excitement."
Profession
"Getting to share and tell people's stories. The effort they put in to race is immense, I feel obligated to play a part in capturing and highlighting the effort and moments, good and bad."
"DirtFish goes above and beyond to share and grow the sport, there's so many others who do the same in the USA, it has always felt like were on the cusp getting it to the next level. But ironically, I believe we are in the next 3-5 years."
