Sweep.

Tim Chovanak

Tim first became involved in rally in 2012 or 2013, working at the finish at PIR and later serving in a blocker position.

Beyond Oregon Trail Rally, he also participates in sweep and chase efforts from the tip of Baja to Alaska and the Arctic Ocean, with his wife Brenda as navigator.

His rally involvement spans mostly stage rally, along with TSD, Baja, and King of the Hammers, reflecting a broad range of experience across multiple forms of rally competition and support.

At a rally, the Sweep team runs the stage after competition cars have passed, responding to incidents such as rollovers or mechanical failures. Sweep crews help recover disabled vehicles, check that drivers and co-drivers are safe, and clear the stage of debris so it can be reopened. Their work is essential to keeping the event safe, minimizing delays, and ensuring that each stage can be closed out properly at the end of the day.

"Volunteering at rally allows us to be a part of the event and work with like-minded people to make the event happen. Many or most of us would probably love to be IN the rallies, but this allows us to be close and to help out."
